Jim Shaw

Jim Shaw is a 4th generation San Franciscan who grew up surfing and sailing along the California coast. After graduating from Univ. of California Santa Barbara, he delivered a 64ft sailboat to Costa Rica and stayed for over a year traveling around the country and playing on a national league basketball team. He returned to California and completed grad school at UCLA but Costa Rica was in his heart.
He and a friend kept a trimaran at Playa de los Cocos in Guanacaste during the late 80s to come to for vacations. Jim was working in a real estate and mortgage broker office in Santa Barbara when he received a phone call from the Barcelo group who were building a new hotel in Tambor and were looking for a sailboat to charter. Jim resigned his position and was in Costa Rica the next week where he became the director of all the tours at the Barcelo Hotel Playa Tambor for nine years. He met his wife, a lovely local lady who was working in the hotel and they have been married for 29 years.
As the area grew and developed and the access improved Jim started a real estate company and has been selling properties in this area for over26 years. He loves the land, the people and the activities here and is glad to help newcomers adjust to the new culture and customs. His clients have become his friends and he has sold dozens of properties from Playa Naranjo to Montezuma.
Jim developed a 200 acre farm overlooking Tambor Bay which he sold in 2008 and went on to develop two other residential communities in this area totaling 56 lots and built several houses. He is experienced in property sales and construction and the legalities and complexities that come with them.
