You can count on just that every Saturday in Tambor, Montezuma, and Santa Teresa with the Organic Market. It is an event that the whole southern tip of the peninsula participates in. A time to gather and socialize while sharing a passion for local, organic products and admiring artisanal goods.
Honey Akerson started the organic market decades ago, bringing in locally grown, organic products for the members of the community to enjoy. That quickly flourished as an opportunity that attracted like minded individuals and artists to connect. This market was originally centered around the produce that Honey brought to the area and quickly evolved into being an essential part of the area’s economic and social development. Local and traveling artists alike are allowed to participate in the organic market, free of charge, to set up their stations and showcase their talents. The vast amount of artisanal goods are handmade with love and sold to the public. Here you will find a wide variety of carefully crafted goods while also stocking up on your groceries for the week ahead. Additionally, you will often be graced by Heart Akerson playing his heart out on the drums and attracting other musicians to join him in the jam session. People dancing, children playing, and the admiration of art paint the picture of what is like to attend these markets. It is an experience like no other that you can look forward to every Saturday.
A wonderful way to truly get to know the individuals who reside in the area and add to the eclectic, natural beauty of the peninsula. The setting of each market is breathtaking and along the coast. The three locations are split up throughout the day with the first one starting in Tambor between 7:30 and 8 AM along the Tambor Bay. Artesans start setting up for the market in Montezuma around 9 AM and the produce arrives between 10:30-11 AM. The location has been hosted at the park in Montezuma center and most recently has been organized to take place on the beach in Montezuma next to the volleyball court. The market in Santa Teresa is also hosted on the beach in Playa Carmen, starting around 3 PM and carries on until 6 PM. The perfect place to enjoy the setting sun and the changing colors of the sky reflecting on the ocean's horizon. Literally what dreams are made of!
